Immigrate to Canada in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program

Ontario PNP is one of the best ways to immigrate to Ontario. This program was launched in 2009, and since then, every year several dozen thousands of foreigners obtained a permanent residence in Canada via OINP.

What streams there are in Ontario PNP?

As of December 2019, Ontario accepts candidates in the nine streams. There are two streams aimed at foreign students who graduated in Ontario – Master Graduates stream and Ph.D. Graduate streams. The local government is interested to retain the international students as they are ready for the provincial labour market.

OINP is also regularly inviting candidates in the Entrepreneur Stream. The province is looking for foreign businessmen willing to open a new venture or purchase the existing business in the province.

In 2018, Ontario nominated 6850 candidates. These applications included 6,721 spouses and children, and in total Ontario received 13,571 new immigrants through the OINP. In 2019, Ontario was allocated 6900 spots for the program.

Ontario government makes an effort to help the local business to attract the most skilled specialists. For that reason, it created three streams in the Employer Job Offer Category: Foreign Worker, International Student, and In-Demand Skills. These streams are designed for those who received a job offer from the Ontario employer.

Finally, Ontario is looking for skilled workers abroad. In the Ontario’s Express Entry category, the province invites candidates in three streams: French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream, Human Capital Priorities Stream, and Skilled Trades stream. Supporting the French-Ontarian minority, the government attracts skilled francophones to settle in the province. Skilled Trades Stream is aimed to cover the shortage of trade specialists in the local economy. Finally, the Human Capital Priorities stream is intended to select top talented candidates to immigrate to Ontario.

How the OINP works?

Every stream of the OINP works differently. In most economic streams, you cannot apply on your own. You will need to get a Notification of Interest from Ontario via your Express Entry profile to apply for a provincial nomination. In the other streams, like the Entrepreneur stream or streams of the Employer Job Offer category, you have to apply online through the OINP e-Filing Portal.
