Come to Canada permanently under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program
Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001. This initiative is intended to bring immigrants to the smallest province of Canada.
In March 2019, the Federal government reopened the immigration office in Charlottetown due to an increased interest in immigration to this province. Since 2016, the number of newcomers to PEI has doubled. In addition, almost 400 PEI residents have become Canadian citizens in the last 2 years.
What streams there are in the PEI PNP?
As of December 2019, Prince Edward Island has two immigration categories in its provincial program: Labour Impact and Business Impact.
Labour Impact category includes five streams for skilled workers: Prince Edward Island Express Entry stream, Skilled Worker Outside Canada stream, Skilled Worker in PEI stream, International Graduate stream, and Critical Worker stream.
PEI EE stream is similar to other provincial streams that are aligned with the Federal Express Entry pool. Candidates are required to register in the Provincial Expression of Interest system and to connect it with their Express Entry profile.
Skilled Worker Outside Canada stream is designed to bring skilled workers who received a job offer from a PEI employer.
Skilled Worker in PEI stream was created to allow foreign nationals already working in the province to apply for a provincial nomination.
International Graduate stream is aimed at international students who successfully completed their study in the college or university in Prince Edward Island and obtained a valid job offer from the local employer.
Critical Worker stream is intended for skilled workers who possess experience in one of the in-demand occupations.
In 2018, 1,630 foreign nationals, including spouses and children, immigrated to Prince Edward Island via the Prince Edward Island PNP. This year, the province has already invited over 1,500 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.
Business Work Permit stream is developed to support the provincial economy by attracting foreign business applicants who wish to start and manage a business in the province and to invest in their business.
Earlier, PEI PNP had two more business immigration streams – Business Impact 100% Ownership and Business Impact Partial Ownership streams. However, these streams were permanently closed in September 2018.
